Thought provoking and well constructed article, gives the layman like me another perspective of the political travails over the last number of decades others have negotiated in the course of South Africa's political upheaval...Thank-you, much appreciated.
Good writing Rob. One of the best I've found at present, Tom from Western Australia. Australia feels safer at the moment only because the PLA haven't made their move.
I visited your beautiful country several times in the first decade of the 21 century. Each trip to Africa, was a month long vehicle tour through, Zim, Zambia, Namibia, Tanzania, Botswana, Malawi and Mozambique.
Amazing experience, what I saw & felt was both exhilarating & terrifying .
I could see the future of my own nation in Corporate Africa.
I made reference to this article in my honors proposal on the Mugabe regime at Rhodes University as I found your description of the failure of the Zimbabwean welfare state and the subsequent expropriation of land to be quite useful. Whilst presenting my proposal I had more than a few spurious side-swipe accusations that you're 'fairly right wing' and that it was a mistake to reference your blog lol.
Sounds like the usual right leaning garbage I hear in the U.S.(AA hiring affecting a group who is the most employed, really?) White Westerners reap what they sow and when mankind finally advances beyond taking counsel from that pathetic and immoral group the universe will be better.
Excellent article.
Incredibly informative. Thank you for writing!

Well done on a great article, with broad historical, political and philosophical grasp, and some delightful jokes. I hope I get to meet you one day.
Excellent, thank you for this!
What books on South African history would you recommend? Needless to say, the history from my Social Science classes do not suffice :D
How is it possible you don't have a much broader audience? Unbelievably high quality long form journalism.

I'll be damned if I wasn't right.
My people have no idea what's coming for them.
BTW I'm from western Canada.
Take a bow Robert, this was a masterpiece.
